Why use a RIP?

A RIP is a software programme very much like a printer driver, except it has many page layout and other features usually not found in print drivers. Most RIPs have been developed primarily for commercial printing e.g. for use in advertising and magazine production. Some of these RIPs have been adapted for fine art printing.
